Ucross High Plains Stewardship Initiative

The Ucross High Plains Stewardship Initiative (UHPSI) at YSE is focused on stewardship and conservation of the American West. At its core, UHPSI engages in teaching, research, and outreach, primarily through mentoring students on applied research and management projects with western partners.

Students develop knowledge and skills related to land management and conservation on private and public lands of the West. UHPSI integrates activities with the strategic plan of the Yale School of the Environment (YSE), fostering

knowledge and leadership for a sustainable future. We accomplish these goals both at Yale’s campus and in the West through three core aspects: experiential Learning, applied research, and collaboration. Visit our website here to learn more

The Forest School

Rooted in place-based experiential learning and rigorous research, The Forest School within the Yale School of the Environment educates scientists and practitioners to apply forest ecology and social dynamics in their work around the globe. We are a hub for connecting forests and people across disciplines, cultivating collaborations, initiatives, and research that underscore the importance of forests within the broader environmental field. As a school community, we train leaders in the field to be systems thinkers with dynamic and adaptive expertise, developing sustainable solutions for the critical challenges of our time.
